What is internal threading? What is external threading? What is threadless jewelry?
Jewelry threading refers to where the threading is in relationship to the post and the end.
Internally Threaded Posts
Internally threaded posts have the threads on the INSIDE of the post. The ball has a threaded stud that goes inside the post. Internally threaded jewelry is superior to externally threaded jewelry. It provides greater comfort during insertion and cleanliness.
Externally Threaded Posts
Externally threaded posts have threads on the OUTSIDE of the post. The ball has the threading on the inside.
As the name implies, threadless jewelry is held together without threads. The end has a bendable wire which inserts into the post. A slight bend causes friction which holds the wire inside the post. Bending the wire more or less adjusts the tightness of the connection.
