Default Septum?

I have pierced other peoples septums, but the thought of the needle going through MY nose makes me cringe. Also i've had such mixed reactions from people from "didn't hurt a bit" to "worst pain of my life" that I don't know what to expect. I want this really bad, but have to hide it. I'd like to have it pierced at a "large" guage 12, 10 and heal it so I can wear jewelry if I feel like it or not.

Also, at the shop I worked they would not use a retainer for initial jewelry. I understand it may make it harder to clean but this ain't the first time i've been pierced. I've done this before and i'm confident I can keep it clean, even if it takes more work.

Thoughts?

My eyes watered alot when my septum was done, but it wasn't what I'd call painful. My daith - now that one was intense. Inner labias - pain.

Septum was ok.

I wanted a retainer as initial jewelry as well, and though I called to make sure they had it before booking the appointment, it just wasn't there when I arrived. I got the daith done instead and ordered the retainer for my next visit. The piercer I use - the closest decent piercer I could find - is 3 hours away - so it was real special the receptionist not knowing the difference between a 14g retainer and a 10g one. She didn't last long.

At the second trip out, it still hadn't arrived, so he didn't charge me for the circular barbell he used. Found out 3 weeks later that the fucker was externally threaded, but I got my retainers shipped to me, no charge, as well because of the big delay.

I didn't want a circular, but it wasn't a big deal healing with it. And it healed super quickly and self-stretched from 12g to 10g in 3 weeks.

Good luck and happy piercing.

I had the opposite experience from all other normal people, it would seem. My septum hurt like a son of a bitch when I got it pierced. Seriously. It brought natural tears to my eyes, not just the "watering eyes" variety. It hurt worse than my daith and conch combined. And then on top of that, it didn't want to heal; the retainer was too ... something, I dunno. I had it switched out to a continuous ring, but that didn't work either, so I had it switched out AGAIN to a different retainer (shorter, and the legs weren't as straight) and SUCCESS! It took about eight months for it to finally heal up right, but now I have no problems with it. I think it was a matter of finding the correct jewelry; something that my body was okay with (my body is REALLY finicky when it comes to what I wear in my piercings, plus I take forever to heal anything ... like at least double the "standard" time).

Yeah, Sela. Healing can vary so widely, and pain perception as well. I can also be finicky when healing.

I find cartilage piercings on me are not happy until I get a curved barbell into them. It was so hard changing that daith on my own! And because of the swelling I needing a silly long one too. It liked to turn around so that the bottom ball was going into my ear canal.

But back on-topic: Septums. Some it hurts, some not so much. Some are easy healers, some are a bitch.

Gotta go poke it and see where things are for you. Always worth it, I think.

How long did it take you guys to heal? I'd like to have another healed hole so I can wear jewelry if I feel like it but not all the time.

It'll probably be about 8ga I'd like t pierced at 10 but I have a weird thing about needles through my nose. Funny how you can get your johnson pierced but the thought of getting it done to your nose makes you cringe.

Also, how well would a 10 or 8 gauge kaos earskin work in a septum?

Thanks guys.

OOH! I just saw the glass septum retainers. I kinda have to hide this one for a while. DO you guys think they'd be alot less noticeable than the steel? I didn't see any black ones.

I just thought the picture was ironic as peter griffin is so damn fat. I don't personally dislike fat chicks.

It's just a picture, cut me some slack jack.

Anyway, real men do all kinds of things. They shoot guns and fix trucks. They also pour bubble baths and hold purses.

They even go to the store to buy tampons at 3am. while carrying a gun.

Find me a really good avatar and i'll use it. If you want to know more about this obviously "interesting" person then ask.

*edit* OK now it's a mentally challenged kid with nunchucks dressed like a superhero. Phew now I don't have to worry about offending anybody.

P.S. What do you guys think about the glass retainer for initial jewelry?

I haven't used a glass retainer because of work. I do get the odd dog, slamming me in the face with his head, glass up my nose is not a good idea.

Not restraining doggers for a living? Go for it. They are said to be very comfortable.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my KAOS solid front plugs. They are my septum jewelry of choice. Go in easily with a dab of Emu oil.

I doubt you'll find a piercer that will put in glass jewelry/glass retainer for the initial piercing. I've never heard of one in my experiences reading online, so it may not be a good idea. But I guess it's worth a shot.
