Thread: Skins

    Default Skins

I have a 4g skin which I bought planning to wear with a cbr.

I haven't worn it yet, because I'm under the impression that it has to come out often for cleaning. Getting a cbr in my ear has always been somewhat difficult for me, so I really don't want to commit to jewelry that has to be removed/reinstalled constantly.

Am I correct in thinking the skin needs to come out for cleaning?

Yes, you will want to remove it periodically. Your lobes can really dry out from silicone, if its not cleaned and lobes oiled pretty regularly.

Maybe experiment with slipping it out, while the ring is still on? Dunno if its possible or how snug the ring is. Just a wacky idea.

If I wear my earskins for more than 3 days straight, when I finally took them out, there was an entire ring of dried (my)skin around the earskin. It was really bad. So, yes, oil them often and do take them out.

That had crossed my mind, too. I may try that.

I've never had any problems with earskins drying my lobes out, but of course YMMV and I've heard lots of people say they've had issues with that. I also rinse/wash my lobes every time I shower regardless of what I'm wearing, so I guess that qualifies as frequent removal :P Maybe try it first without the cbr and see how your ears react? Also second the suggestion of seeing if you can pull the earskin out without undoing the cbr; shouldn't be a problem if there's enough wiggle room. What gauge cbr were you planning on?

6, if it will fit okay, otherwise, 8.

Good idea...I'll just try the skin, first.

    Default Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I HATE trying to change jewelry in my lobe!

Stretched to 4g, but could not, for the life of me, get the skin in. Put a segment in to hold the stretch for the time being, but 4g ss is just too heavy and floppy for a lobe.

Is it easier for chix, who grow up changing earrings all the time?

    I say again, ARGH!

How are you trying to put it in? Front to back like any other plug? Tried folding it up lengthwise hotdog bun style? That's how I do it.

    Thanks, Dar, I'll try that.

Mostly, I'm just inept, and trying to use a mirror just compounds that.
